Since moving from Japan to North Dakota, we have been a SunBox family. We then moved to Idaho and bought others. Most recently my mom went into memory care. The staff said it would really help to have a small one in her room because she’s confined to the facility now. i will be honest here i thought this whole sunbox thing was all nonsense ….then someone purchased it for me because of my “crankiness” i have to say i am a believer now. when i work mostly at night sometimes i swear i hardly ever see the sun this little box definitely works for me i mean hell it even fools the dog he loves to sit in the sun when this box is on he will somehow end up between me and the box all i can say is if t makes a grump like me feel better then you should give it a try

The difference between the cheaper light therapy lamps and the Sunbox lamps is the power of the lights. Anyone can say their lamp is 10,000 lumens if they put enough light bulbs in the box. But the big difference is that on cheaper ones it is only 10,000 lumens about 1/4 inch from the bulbs! Then the light power drops off radically. This Sunbox lamp is at 10,000 lumens 14″ from the lamp. All you need is a half hour exposure.
Set the lamp at a 45° angle to you. I have it on a end table by my favorite seat to drink my morning coffee. I read or write for the half hour. A great way to start the day. (And yes, I have to get up half an hour earlier to do it.) It is BRIGHT so be sure to have it at the 45° angle and not looking directly into it.
I do not have a diagnosis per se but was commenting to a friend how I was feeling sort of dulled. She said “Why don’t you give one of those lights a try?” So since I was doing an Amazon order and I knew I could easily return it if it didn’t work I decided to try it out. Used it for half hour the first day I got it and I have not missed a day since! It was utterly transformative after only 15 minutes of use. It felt like a switch got flipped back to the On position in my brain!

I used to have a roommate who had a light box and I would use it every morning for about 30 minutes in the winter. It made a big difference for me and I have been wanting one of my own for awhile. Hers was huge and bulky, I like this one because it’s small and a good shape to keep on the corner of my desk. It looks much better than in the pictures… it’s painted pure white and a good size for the top of a desk. Looking forward to using this all winter.
Update: I’m going into my third winter of using this device. I just wanted to let everyone know that this simple little device is absolutely LIFE CHANGING. I wish I had known about this when I was a teenager because now that I’m in my 30s I am realizing all of the horrible seasonal blues I’ve endured in my life that could have been avoided just by sitting in front of this device.
You will feel the effects of this device INSTANTLY. I try to start using it mid-sept and keep it up until the beginning of spring for 30 minutes a day in the morning. Once a long time ago I took meds which had horrible side effects for me, this is a gentle natural cure that really works and I might even say it is better than the pills (really!!!).
Also, as an added bonus. I’ve noticed that the earlier I use this in the morning, the more solid I sleep at night. I sometimes have trouble getting to sleep, but this little device completely knocks out my insomnia.

This is a great little light that is easy to move, yet big enough to provide the light you need. The company who sells this light couldn’t be more helpful! A real person actually answers the phone every time I’ve called. I’ve ordered two lights. One came with a broken light and they couldn’t have been more helpful. I called another time with a question about how to use it and again, they were very responsive. I highly recommend this company and this Jr. light.

Although I suffer from a mild level of blues in the Winter, I have been skeptical of the claims of light box manufacturers. Recently I ran into a trusted friend who has one and she swears by it so I have decided to give it a try. Although I cannot tell if using the light is causing a placebo effect or if the results are real but I must say that I am feeling more energetic and have a more positive outlook on life.
I use the box each morning at my desk for 30 minutes to an hour. I placed it just below eye level slightly forward of my side so that the light has a direct line to my eyes but doesn’t blind me. I tried to use it one time in the afternoon but I couldn’t get to sleep that night so now I only use it in the morning.
As to the product it is well built and doesn’t take up too much room on my desk. It produces 10,000 Lux which is what doctors recommend so it is more than just a lamp. I will keep using it and will update this post to report on the effects of the box over a longer period.

Using my Sunbox has been a life changing experience. Within a week, I was sleeping better, which had been a problem for many years. I, also noticed a marked energy increase as well as significant mood improvement shortly thereafter.
