I've bought several different therapy lights over the years, usually middle-tier lights off of Amazon from major companies that had tube lights and came with the recommended brightness/light type for mental benefits, and they were okay but didn't last very long until they needed new bulbs (which I couldn't find because those models would be discontinued and I would have to order a different one). I decided to try one from here even though they were more pricey. The light I got was a compact one and used LED lighting, and I could tell immediately that the quality and design of this light was so much better, the lighting was so much brighter, I was able to hang it on my wall since it didn't have a stand which has worked, and I got used to the LED lighting. Very happy with my purchase.

I've bought the Aurora LightPad Mini and it has done wonders for me. I feel much more awake and focused when I use it in the morning. I use it just for a few minutes each morning and it really gets my day started quickly and gives me the boost of energy I need to carry out my work day.

I love my small sun lamp. It has really helped me during the pacific northwest winters.

I really enjoy this light, it is lightweight and easy to use. Several decades ago when I lived in Seattle, I got one that was HUGE and heavy. This is so much more convenient. I only gave 4 stars, just because as I live in central California I find I am not using it as much but this has nothing to do with the quality of the product. Before purchasing this one, I bought a cheapie on Amazon and returned it as it so bad. If it says Alaska Northern Lights, I always think quality. It is worth the extra cost.

I purchased an Aurora LightPad Mini in April 2025, and I have been very pleased with it. The quality is supreme, and although the light is small, it is mighty! Even on its lowest light setting, and there are three, it is VERY bright! I also love that it’s small enough to take with me on the go and it comes with a carrying case too.

When I ordered it, it was on back order and I reached out to them to inquire about when I might receive it, and the customer service was excellent.

I love this light and it has been very helpful to better regulate my sleep cycle as well as nervous system. I use it daily in the winter mornings and outside of winter, when it’s overcast and I just need a mood boost and to wake up. It doesn’t raise vitamin D levels, but I notice a mood boost anyway, because light is good for humans.

I’d highly recommend Alaska Northern Lights if searching for light therapy products. They’re worth the price, and there’s no price too high for good health! I am pleased with my investment and the company.

Alaska Northern Lights light is the first thing I turn on the morning (even before coffee!!). We live in basement condo with very sunlight, we call it "the cave". I leave our ANL light on for a few hours, as while we have breakfast and read the news. It has made a HUGE difference, it feels like morning. Our moods are lifting and we are more alert.

A therapy lamp has been on my "to buy" list for years. My winter blues was significantly worse this winter than in years past so I consulted with a Psychiatrist who highly recommended light therapy specifically from this brand. What a blessing it has been in my life. Medication wasn't enough, but medication changes paired with light therapy has been a game changer. I stopped isolating and started getting out more and socializing. I sleep better. I have more energy. I'm less fatigued. My mood has improved. I highly recommend this brand & product, you won't be disappointed!

I purchased an Aurora Lightpad Mini quite a few years ago, and it is still going strong! It is part of my first-thing-in-the-morning routine. I love that it is so small compared to the first lightboxes from decades ago, so I can actually take it on my travels with me. Since I need the extra light for about 6 months of each year, having it with me in the Winter months, is very helpful, no matter where I am! I did find that I was prone to headaches if the Lightbox was positioned in front of me, but having it just behind my peripheral vision solved that side effect. For the boost it gives me, the cost is certainly worth it.

I have had my light for over 10 years. I use it every winter season to light up those dark mornings. I was surprised when I found that my sleep improved dramatically. Then I read that the light triggers increased melatonin production so it made a lot of sense. I just bought another for a friend that was having trouble sleeping and I know it has helped her as well.

I'm very happy with my Aurora LightPad Mini. I love winter, but I was having trouble sleeping. After some research into light therapy, I decided to try this model. One of its biggest advantages over most other products is its compact size — it's small enough to fit on my desk while still being the proper distance away to receive the full lux output. I purchased the Mini this past fall to get through the winter months and it has really made a different. Before I purchased, I researched how much lumen is required and how close/far from your face the light should be based on the lumen. I was able to keep the winter blues away this past winter. This lil lamp was purchased manly to reduce/eliminate the effects of winter blues since moving to the Vancouver BC area.
This particular light is only one of very, VERY FEW where the light output is actually what's advertised. The key to using it properly [in order to get the best results] is to actively maintain the distance [for me] for about 23 minutes. Use a tape measure and verify.... It's all about consistency. Absolutely no benefit if you [too] casually stay further away. Do it right! Stay that recommended distance! Stay that short time period!! Have a hot cup of coffee. You'll appreciate it!! You won't regret it. It workx!!

I purchased the Aurora LightPad Mini and have been happy with it so far. It’s compact, easy to set up, and fits nicely on a desk or table without taking up much space. The light is very bright, simple to use, and seems well made. Overall, it’s a convenient option if you want a smaller lamp that is easy to work into your daily routine.

Great product to help with long New England winters

Does what I wanted it to do: super bright even at a far enough distance where I can work on my laptop.

I have enjoyed my Alaska Northern Lights LightPad Mini immensely. It is compact, light, portable and most importantly creates an impressive amount of illumination (three settings) particularly for it’s size. Recommend without hesitation even at premium price point which it lives up to.

I cannot recommend Alaska Northern Lights' Aurora LightPad Mini enough! I've endured too many winters where winter blues set in. It was time to do something different. The technology is amazing the way it works WITH your body to help regulate serotonin and melatonin levels. I started using the light in 2018 and haven't stopped! I can think more clearly and my down days are fewer and farther between. Thank you for brighter days!

I have 2 lights from Alaska Northern Lights (one for home and one for work) and I’m very happy with the product and the company. I recommend them often to people I know. They are worth the money over other cheaper options. The compact size, adjustable brightness, and quality is notable. My older one (almost a decade old) recently stopped working, or so I thought, but it turned out it was only the power cord that needed to be replaced and it was good to go. Highly recommend to anyone who experiences seasonal mood changes.

I have their Aurora LightPad Mini. Since using it I’ve been sleeping better at night and my mood has been elevated! It’s a little bright at first but after a while I got used to it and now it’s comfortable to use.

I LOVE my light. I think I got my first lightpad from Alaska Northern Lights 5 or 6 years ago. I got a 2nd one a couple of years after that and last year one of them stopped working. Alaska Northern Lights was super easy to work with. I contacted them, I sent the lightpad in for repairs and they ended up replacing it because whatever was broken was unfixable. It is a quality product and I use it every single morning. My 12 year old son steals it if he gets up in the early morning when it's still dark outside (although he just likes the light and has no clue when it's intended for). It has definitely made a difference in my mood during the long, cold winter. Customer service is very responsive and the turnaround time for the repair/replacement was quick. I highly recommend this company.

very easy to use. the light hardly gets hot at all. I have been using it consistently over the last month and feel better than it was last year at the same time. even though it was somewhat pricey, I feel it was something that will last for a long time and quality made.

I've used Alaskan Northern Lights products for at least 15 years (large light, mini light and visor). Their products are as advertised and they provide solid customer support. As a psychologist, I've recommended this company dozens of times for people struggling and in need of light therapy. I've never received a negative report with respect to the company and/or their products. Finally, Alaskan Northern Lights products work--no doubt about it.

I ordered a lamp, probably 10 years ago. It worked great! I just needed to buy a new cord for it as the cord has been tossed around. Super helpful, could buy just the cord and my light works like it did 10 years ago! Great light, it sure lights up a room. It's quiet bright like looking into the sun.

Although I live in relatively sunny southern OR, our winters can be very foggy and grey, with chilly valley inversions, especially in the mornings. TL;DR: While I prefer sunshine, during winter this is my go to solution. I recommend it.

The details:
I purchased the Aurora LightPad Mini back in December 2024 after in previous years I verified using a sleep tracker that I lost about half an hour of sleep a night during winter.
The results were clear after using the product for several weeks - I managed to add back about 15-20 minutes of sleep a night (again, as measured by the sleep tracker) and I kept using it until winter was done here (Washington DC region) and I could emerge outside again and bask in natural sunlight. I will start using it again come December.
While I prefer sunshine, during winter this is my go to solution. I recommend it.

I have two Alaska Northern Lights devices and have recommended them to countless friends. Even in southern California, sunshine deprivation (and the blues that go with it) is a thing.

Before buying, I researched light boxes and found the Alaska Northern Lights devices to be the most robust and well thought out.

Unlike other brands I had tried, this model is compact, which I love. For reference, I went with the small-but-mighty Aurora LightPad™ Mini.

I would not be without mine, especially on gloomy days like today. Now when it's overcast or rainy, I'm no longer helpless --this thing lifts my energy and spirits, so I'm not at the mercy of the weather. Talk about an empowering move. I consider it an investment in my health and quality of life.

I bought the second unit for family, but ended up getting it back. So now I tuck it into my carry-on when I travel.

The benefits of extra light are real for me for most of the year. Light supplementation for me has outperformed other treatments that are much more expensive. And used in conjunction with other treatments, the results have been life changing for me. My Lightpad Mini supports my mood and cognition daily from August through April. I ordered Alaska Northern's travel light. It may be small, but it is mighty. The results are far better than other "happy lights" that I have tried over the years. Plus it is slim and easy to take along anywhere. Highly recommend.

I had a phenomenal experience with this company when I purchased my Aurora LightPad Mini, which is small but powerful. The initial cord that came with the lightbox was faulty, and when I emailed customer service, they responded within minutes with an easy resolution (provided me a shipping label to send it back, and sent a replacement that same day). Everything works perfectly now, and this product has gotten me through one Seattle winter and seems sturdy enough that it will get me through many more, especially with the lifespan of LED lights. Also love that I don't have to replace bulbs! I would absolutely recommend both the product and the company!!

I had an Alaska Northern Lights NorthStar 10000 lamp for 20 years. It lasted through several moves and being bashed about, used at least daily during half of the year in Alaska. It finally died and I had the chance to purchase a new LightPad Mini and use it daily. Can't beat the reliability of these products.

The light is extremely bright, to the point where it is almost blinding and feels like you are looking at the sun. I am sleeping better and have more energy after using the light for only a week. Compact size is a bonus and makes it easy to use and travel with.

My wife insisted that I get a light box after my doctor recommended. I was hesitant as we have lived in Seattle for years and just figured everything would get better when the sun came out. I searched a long time for a good quality light which can give the recommended 10K lux without having to be inches from my face. This light does just that and has made a major difference through this past New England Winter.

I have been suffering from winter blues for years. I decided to do something about it and started researching lights. I found Alaska Northern Lights products and was impressed by the reviews of their products. I purchased the Mini Pad so I could with it. I'm very happy with my purchase. The light is easy to use, compact and is well made. Due to its size it can be carried around the house and used wherever it's needed - the kitchen table, a desk, a bedside table. The directions tell you how to start at a lower exposure, 2,500 Lux and build up to the full 10,000 Lux exposure. I'm not yet at 10,000 Lux exposure but am optimistic that this will help. The website is also very useful!

This product was a gift for my son. He likes the smallness of the light box and the fact that he can take it with him when traveling. I have the large light box for my use.

I have personally used a light pad/box from Alaska Northern Lights for the past 8 years with great success. In addition, as a psychologist, I regularly “prescribe” their lights for my patients. Without fail, the lights have significantly helped my patients. I’ve tried lights from other companies but have not found them to be nearly as efficacious. Alaska Northern Lights sells a worthy product. As an aside, they have excellent customer service.

Holy goat on a cliff, this thing is bright. I thought my cool LED ceiling fixture was on the verge of obnoxious, but this thing is like a 5x7 picture frame with someone's vacation photo from the center of the Sun. It is about the size and weight of a kindle with a very generous power cord, about 10 feet long.

I haven't been so bad since moving to California, but I am one of those Delayed Circadian people and this past year I have been sleeping my natural 2am-10am and so I am missing out on 3-4 hours of daylight everyday. While I got the light a month ago as a birthday gift, I just turned it on today, December 1, because it rained today (YAY!) and I didn't get outside much, and I am starting to miss sunlight. Even on low, I cannot have it facing me, but I have faced it toward a nearby wall for now.

Perfect as niece will be traveling around Alaska.

This is my third light therapy box I’ve owned (all different brands) and I can already tell it’s the best one yet! Very bright and works from a good distance. I love that I don’t have to sit really close to it like I did my other lights. I will never buy another brand ever again and will recommend this light to everyone.

I have limited space on the boat where I live. The mini light box is exactly what I needed. It provides me with the amount of light prescribed. It fits in minimal storage space. It’s size does not affect performance. Great product.

I have suffered through the winters for the past 5 years. My doctor suggested I purchase a light box and I’m so happy to have found the Aurora Lightpad mini. I noticed a significant difference in my mood right from the start. I use it every day and call it my happy light. Thank you Alaska Northern Lights. I couldn’t be happier.

I pooh-poohed the idea of a light box forever. Then during the pandemic, I began working at home. I didn't realize the overhead lights at most workplaces are specialized to mimic sunlight, and so after more than 6 months at home, in the winter, AND during the pandemic, I re-e-e-eally started to feel it.

It is on the pricier side. But Alaska Northern Lights is the ONLY brand my mental health specialist recommended. I started "feeling" better on Day 1. And, of course, when my overall "mood" is better, it helps cope with my fatigue. I may graduate to the bigger one at some point so I can be further away from it as my needs change, but the mini is great as it fits, unobtrusively, on my dining room table to the side of my computer monitor.

Originally, I’m from a very sunny place and moving to Fargo, ND was a shock, to say the least. I became irritable, withdrawn, tired and just a downright unhappy person. After a little bit of research, I discovered that maybe I needed to try a light box. I purchased the Aurora Lightpad mini and have loved it ever since. It’s a small and VERY bright lightpad. Several months ago, I was seeing a sleep therapist for fatigue and “unrestful” sleep. She suggested I try a light box. I finally went ahead and ordered one, and I am very happy with my purchase. I’ve been using the box for about two weeks now. Initially, I noticed an improvement in fatigue; currently, I am now starting to wake before my alarm goes off.

This light rocks! I wanted something that takes up less space but is still effective so I decided to cough up the money for one of these. It's intensely bright and effective. I felt a huge boost of energy and mood the very first day using it. I definitely recommend trying one out for anyone who has trouble getting through the winter.

I looked at a lot of other light therapy lights. Many of them had complaints about quality, design, and so on but what really struck me was the difference between this product and the competition when it came to effective distance. All the competition comes nowhere close to the effective distance that this one has. Also, even though I got this product just for helping my sleep, using this light has done amazing things for my energy and concentration. The stand is way better than trying to arrange furniture to accomodate it too. Love this light, wish I'd tried it sooner!

Seems to be of good quality. Off/On brightness selector switch is sensitive and is easy to operate. Good simple design.

I was lucky enough to come across this brand through another customer on amazon. Their review compared three different brands, and mention alaska northern lights at the top competitor. I tested it for a week since they have a 60 day money back. Within that week, my mood changed and the uncomfortable feeling from my winter blues subsided. So far so good! I’ve had it about 1.5 weeks. Not sure if it’s improved my mood (too early to tell) but I have already noticed an increase in energy, so I will keep using it. It arrived quickly, I love the size of it and portability. It’s small enough to fit nearly anywhere and at the same time is incredibly bright.

Incredible. Started to feel better within the first day of use. Definitely bright enough to keep on the desk ~2 feet from my face versus the other lamps that sell for cheaper (which need to be kept around 6" from your face, which is obviously impractical).

The 7 year warranty, customer service and customer reviews sold me on Alaska Northern Lights brand light box. At first I thought my brighter mood was the result of my desire that the light would work and my belief in it. It still seems to be a subjective matter because I don’t understand the science behind it; but after using the light for three weeks, I can honestly report that I have a more positive outlook and approach to my day.

This is a repeat buy for me. I owned one of these a decade ago but lost it in a move. I replaced it with a Costco version and suffered two winters because of the inferior product. I am so happy to have an effective light in my life again. It really does make a difference.

High quality product, good initial impression of its benefit.

I purchased this because, unlike most LED lights, it does not produce "dirty electricity" (which I confirmed by testing it). It is a good choice for electrically sensitive people. (just keep some distance from the power cord, as with all electrical devices). I also found that the light is much too glaring (LEDs usually cause me pain to look at) to face directly, so I direct the light toward a white wall of ceiling, which gives a vey nice, more diffuse light- a lot like daylight on a snowy day.

I struggled with having very little energy in the winter months for years. It definitely added to the stress of the holidays and I would get really crabby really easily. Every year for the last few years I ended up researching lights, but didn't purchase one. This fall was so dreary, I was already feeling the effects before November! So I finally decided to buy one. I had more energy within days of starting therapy. I'm waking up more easily, which is one of the first things I noticed, enjoying my time in front of the light each morning, I have more energy during the day and my mood is definitely improved. I'm now really thankful that the fall was so dreary because it finally tipped me over into making the decision to buy a light! I'm doing much better than I was just trying to struggle through without it! I plan to recommend this light to my family and friends who have difficulty in the winter months too. I have had one of the big boxes for about twenty years and it has served me well. We stored it so well after last season, that we couldn't find it, so I purchased the LightPad Mini. It's amazing, extremely bright, and takes up very little space.

This little LED unit cranks out an amazing amount of light. Other companies advertise 10,000 lux but from what I gather they require you to be fairly close to the light, e.g. 6-12 inches. This unit has 3 power settings and at the highest setting I can be 25 inches away and still get 10,000 lux (at least). I measured with my light meter.

I have an older, much larger fluorescent tube box but this new LED LightPad is much brighter, even though it is much smaller.

Keep in mind that light is very dependent upon distance, i.e. if you double the distance from the light, then you only get half the amount of light. That is why I am so impressed by how much light this unit can produce even at 2 feet away.

This is the third version of my lamps over the decades. Each much smaller. This is much better for keeping on my desk with much less space required. Light seems much more intense than others.
Wish the stand was permanently attached to the pad itself.

this is the second lightbox we have ordered. We had the larger one years ago. This one is so much smaller and convenient to use.

This light works wonderfully; it's pretty small, but works effectively. I'm glad that I paid for it rather than some lights that you have to sit six inches away from. I have only used it in the end of winter/beginning of spring, so the true test will come when it's the dead of winter.
It also got hit with duties and taxes, so I spent another $60.

Received my light quickly. It was well packaged. The light is bright and easy to use. Haven’t been using long. Misread the directions, so I am still working up to recommended distance and strength. It does seem to have improved my mood.

So convenient! I haven’t had it 2 wks yet to speak to effectiveness. Love that they provide insurance forms and that they are up to medical standards.

I have benefited greatly from 2 Alaska Northern Lights products: the North Star 10,000 and the Aurora Mini-Pad. I've used the larger North Star for over 20 years and am now using it to illuminate my bathroom while getting ready for the day during our many gray days/dark mornings. Then I use the mini-pad at my desk at the therapeutic distance/time at the start of my work day.

I love it. It is much brighter than a lamp I had in the past. The product is exactly what it was described as, and got here in a very timely manner.

Be aware to not simply push the “on” button, but hold it down a bit. Otherwise, it won’t turn on!

I bought a light box recommended by my doctor because I have winter blues. I use the light box in the morning, and it has helped. What really helps in addition is sitting out in actual sunlight. Everyone's level is obviously different. What I LOVE about this little light pad are several things: you can take it anywhere, very lightweight, LED lights, three settings of brightness, cools off very quickly after turning it off, small as shown in the photo and easy to set up. I checked out numerous products and found this (at the time I bought it) to be the only one using LED lights and the price was reasonable. After I reported back to my doctor, she is now recommending this product to her other patients, based on my rating of it, which is A+++.

Last week i received at my house my new Lightpad. All I can say is WOW what a difference a little light makes in my life. I have tried other light boxes in the past and this unit is super small and super bright. This was a great buy!

The Aurora Lighpad mini is amazing. I have the big one at home but having one I can take with me to the office and or on trips with me is amazing. In my opinion it works just as well as the big one, you may just have to use it a little bit longer (not a ton, but it seems to help).

To tell you a little bit about myself I live in Utah so I have to deal with the Utah inversions which during stretches of days, weeks at a time we don't get much sunlight due to the overcast inversion. After being introduced to the Aurora lightpad my energy levels have improved and overall just my enjoyment for life is better.

Super bright, light-weight, energy efficient and portable. It gets a little warm (as mentioned in the instructions), but that doesn't seem to affect performance. Highly recommended.

This light met every expectation I had. About the size of a Kindle, it has three settings for brightness, a separate and very sturdy stand, and it plugs directly into any wall socket. Easy to operate, good quality. I got it on sale, which was a plus. And, best of all, IT WORKS for ME!!! I sit in the light for a half hour every morning as soon as I get up, and it really does help. I tend not to need it on days when there is full sun outside, but during the winter and during long weeks of gray skies in the spring, it has been a real lifesaver for me. Highly recommended!

She is even getting her sleep under control as her outlook has changed. In trolling the websites I am glad I discovered your Mini Pad as its size for travelling and ready adaptation to European electric current was so convenient. If I lived in such a climate I indeed would get one for myself but its not necessary in sunny Arizona. Great design too.!

My husband suffers in the winter time with not much sunlight. This did the trick since he is not as grumpy as in years past.

At first I thought this was way too bright, but I'd never actually seen one of these before. For those that have said it's too bright, after using just once I realized it's just right. I love it (and apparently so do my cats!) and can tell the difference already. I look forward to using it every day! I live on Cape Cod, MA after living in Texas all my life (60 years) and have had to adjust to winter sundown between 4 and 5 pm.

This light replaced my other happy light that I had for 10 years. My other one was 3' X2'. I had to lift it up from under my desk every day. This light is so small, and brighter, I love it!

WARNING: Have a welder's helmet on the first time you turn it on. This thing is CRAZY bright. It left me seeing spots for quite a while the first time I turned it on. And that was the LOW setting.

Having said that, it is AMAZINGLY effective. With in 15 min. I was feeling different and doing better. Would have paid four times the price and still been completely happy with this thing! Just actually read the directions and start slow and and at a distance!

This light is about the size of a Kindle or iPad Mini. I bought this one, as opposed to the others on the market because this one used LEDs, which use less energy, and the compact size makes it easy to take with me when I travel. It is great to have when you have to travel a lot and switch time-zones. Using it is very easy, one button on and it sure holds up to the brightness of any other, even larger lights I've had.
I'd recommend it to anyone that is looking to get a light for their mood, this one certainly helps me!

The Aurora LightPad Mini is incredible. It is so simple to set up and begin using. Just a tap of the finger and you can adjust the brightness. I have it on a little table where I like to read in the morning and it is so simple to pack up and take to work if I want to use it there. Having such a small compact one is the best!
