6 Tips To Help Your Partner Overcome Depression

A problem plaguing whole of planet Earth right now is the silent killer called depression. There are millions who are affected by depression. It makes humans highly dysfunctional but to the normal eye they seem perfectly fine. For example, the actor Robin Williams was affected by depression. He was a famous comedian and actor. He fought depression for nearly two decades and in 2014 he committed suicide. What’s disconcerting is the fact that he seemed perfectly normal. But for a depressed person ‘normal’ can be quite different than what it is for us.

It takes away their ability to be happy and makes them seem grumpy and sad all the time. People around them get irritated in time and start giving up on them. Even families fail to understand depressed people at times. So, what can you do differently for your depressed partner? Read on as we suggest tips to help your partner overcome depression.

Proper Sleep
Sleep deprivation can cause irritability and make you grumpy. Depression multiplies those effects. So, if your partner is depressed make sure they are getting proper sleep. Sleeping anywhere between 7-9 hours takes care of your emotional well-being and kick-starts your fight against depression.

Soak In The Sun
Did you know that depression can also be caused due to low lighting? Usually called ‘winter blues’, this happens during the winter months when there is relatively lesser sunlight.

Sunlight exposure keeps your internal clock active and ensures that your sleep and wake cycles are working efficiently. So, take your partner on a holiday to soak in the sun and overcome his/her depression.

Exercise
Exercising regularly has various benefits. To begin with, it helps in lowering your BP and keeps you healthy. It also releases endorphins or happy hormones which help in uplifting your mood. Exercise with your partner or go jogging. It will help him/her to overcome depression.

The Power Of Touch Human
Human touch is a powerful weapon you can use against depression. Help your partner fight depression by massaging their body or taking them to an acupuncturist. Overcoming depression is easier when there is a human touch to it.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids
People who take sea cod oil tablets or regularly include fishes rich in omega 3 fatty acids like salmon or tuna, in their diet show lesser signs of depression. If your partner is depressed make him/her compulsorily eat food that is rich in omega 3 fatty acids. There are vegetarian alternatives too.

Get In Touch With Your Loved Ones
Humans need to socialize for their own wellbeing. If you’re trying to help your depressed partner, do so by taking him/her to her loved ones. The change will do good for your partner and help them cope in a better way with depression.
